infant dentistry or pediatric dentistry

Infant Dentistry

At Hello Dental, we see infants as young as 2 days old to access their oral motor skills including the necessary reflexes & tongue function as both affects feeding which is a vital aspect at this age.

Our goal is to optimize development from infancy by accessing their oral myofunction & develop oral-motor skills from birth.

We work alongside Lactation Consultant, Speech
Therapist & Bodyworkers to address breastfeeding difficulties, speech or feeding issues.

Mouth Breathing

In Hello Dental, we take our patients breathing very seriously. Every child should breath through the nose!

Mouth breathing in children can be a common issue and can be caused by various factors: allergies, nasal congestion, enlarged tonsils, or even habit.

It leads to a range of problems if left untreated, including:

  • open mouth posture leading to dry mouth and throat, bad breath, sore throat or infection
  • Increased risk of dental problems: cavities, gum disease, and malocclusion (misaligned teeth)
  • Increased risk of respiratory infections, including colds, flu, and sinusitis
  • Poor sleep quality, which can lead to daytime fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and behavioral issues

mouth with tongue tie

Tongue Tie

Tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia, is a condition
where the tissue that attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth is unusually short or tight. This can restrict the movement of the tongue and cause difficulty with speaking, eating, & breastfeeding.

Not all tongue tie needs to be released. At Hello Dental, we provide laser functional frenectomy when indicated.

We access the tongue function, tone and coordination
to ensure release is done functionally (not just a snip
but also with exercises) to strengthen tongue tone.

Pacifier & Drooling

Pacifiers are a common tool used to soothe infants and young children. While they can be helpful in the short term, prolonged pacifier use can lead to dental issues such as malocclusion (misaligned teeth), drooling and problems with speech development.

At Hello Dental, we can help you determine if pacifier use and drooling are impacting your child’s dental health and develop a plan to address any issues that arise.

thumb sucking

Thumb Sucking

Thumb sucking is a common habit among infants and young children, and it is a natural way for them to self-soothe and feel comfortable. However, if the habit persists beyond the age of 4 or 5, it can begin to cause problems with the development of the mouth and teeth.

If you are concerned about your child’s thumb sucking habit, there are many way to approach including behavioral therapy and chewing appliance. In Hello Dental, we believe is important to approach the issue with patience and understanding.

Early Interceptive
Orthodontics

The goal of early interceptive orthodontics is to address
specific orthodontic issues before they become more severe and difficult to treat. This may include correcting bite problems, such as overbite, underbite, or crossbite, as well as addressing issues related to crowding, spacing, or missing teeth.

Interceptive orthodontic treatment may involve the use
of various appliances, such as braces, expanders, or space maintainers, to help guide the growth and development of the teeth and jaw naturally. By addressing these issues early on, it may be possible to avoid more extensive and invasive orthodontic treatment later in life.

oral myofunctional therapy to treat children

Oral Myofunctional
Therapy

Oral myofunctional therapy typically involves exercises &
techniques designed to improve muscle tone and function in the mouth and face. These may include tongue, lip and cheek exercises, and breathing exercises.

The goal of oral myofunctional therapy is to achieve nose
breathing, lip seal and good tongue posture. By this, we address functional issues that may be contributing:

  • long face growth pattern
  • open mouth posture
  • buck tooth or excessive tooth spacing
  • poor oral habits eg. reverse swallow pattern
  • speech/feeding difficulties

Dentistry for Children

Children Dentistry is a comprehensive dental care for children, including general dentistry, behavioral therapy, preventive care, restorative treatments, and early orthodontic care.

In addition to providing dental care, in Hello Dental we help children feel comfortable and at ease during their dental visits.

We use child-friendly language & techniques to help children understand the importance of good oral hygiene and develop good dental habits.

Our goal is that every child grow up enjoying dental visit, not phobic and fearful.

Client Testimonials

We value your feedback

customer with pediatric dentist

We were recommended to Dr Gin for a frenotomy procedure for our baby boy. She was very professional and patient in explaining the procedure so that we could make the most informed decision. There was also thorough follow up. Overall we were comforted by her competence and her compassion, would definitely recommend her! 🙂

- Evelyn Teh

My daughter (almost 2 months at the time) came here for a tongue release procedure. Can’t say enough good things about Dr Gin, We especially love that Dr Gin ALWAYS spoke to my daughter as her own person, never speaking to her through mummy or daddy. This small habit told us that she loved and really knew how to communicate with children. We have recommended many friends to Hello Dental, and will return in the future when the need arises for us, even though we stay so far away in Sg Buloh
