hasslefree and predictable results

Why should I choose clear aligners?

  1. Clear – They are made up of transparent and thin trays. You do not have to feel self-conscious with a metallic smile, and smile widely while your invisible aligners work to get your teeth realigned.
  2. Clean – Aligners can be removed easily while eating, brushing and flossing. This ensures your dental hygiene is maintained well.
  3. Comfortability – There is less or even no dental emergency as there is no issue with metal brackets or wire poking into cheek and gum or dropped brackets which commonly happen to metal braces.
  4. Convenient – You can eat and enjoy all your favourite floss with no food, you will experience fewer emergency visits, without the hassle of brackets and wires breaking.
  5. Lesser Doctor Visits – Unlike braces where you have to visit your doctor every 3–4 weeks, Invisalign frees up your schedule with visits to the clinic only once every 6–8 weeks.

Are clear aligners just as effective as the traditional braces?

Yes, it is!

It can correct bite problems including overbite, underbite, open bite and crossbite. It can correct gap teeth and crowded teeth. Some research even indicates that they are more effective. Moreover, these nearly invisible braces approach is most suitable for social and active lifestyles, particularly among self-conscious teenagers and adults, as they are hardly distinguishable.

How do I kickstart my clear aligner journey?

  1. Arrange an appointment for initial consultation and 3D intraoral scan. The dentist will conduct a full examination and assessment with photos, x-rays and 3D intraoral scan for analysis of facial profile, malocclusion and dental condition. These records will be used to make a 3D treatment plan, which will be used to design the custom-made Invisalign.
  2. Making a personalised Treatment Plan. The Dentist will show you a 3D simulated outcome of the treatment to show you your predicted results during and after your treatment.
  3. Your journey starts! You will be given a series of trays, each of which lasts a week or two, and are to be worn for 22–24 hours a day. These trays gradually move the teeth, and should only be removed while eating and drinking. In some cases, if deemed necessary, your doctor may also fit clear attachments on your teeth to join with aligners, also providing more support to move your teeth into the desired position. You will likely schedule a face-to-face consultation every 6–8 weeks to check your progress and pick up the next batch of aligners.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Clear Aligner

It depends on the complexity of your case, you could complete your treatment in as little as 6 months.

It is recommended that anyone who has completed orthodontic treatment, use a retainer to prevent teeth from gradually shifting back toward their initial position. Every case is different, so ask your doctor if you need retainers.

Yes, clear aligners can treat nearly all common teeth-straightening issues, from simple to complex cases.

You should wear each aligner for 20 to 22 hours a day during your treatment for best results and a timely outcome.

You will visit your dentist for a check-up approximately every 6–8 weeks to see how your treatment is progressing. During your check-ups, your dentist will check that the aligners are fitting well and make any adjustments if necessary.

You’ll be provided with enough aligners to last between visits to your doctor (usually 3–4 sets at a time). Your doctor will review your progress every 6–8 weeks and new aligners will be given to you at these appointments. It’s best to speak to your doctor about how many aligners you will be provided with between visits.

No, you can usually eat what you want while in treatment because the clear aligners are removed when eating or drinking. Thus, there’s no need to refrain from your favourite foods and drinks unless instructed by your doctor. However, it’s recommended that you floss and brush your teeth after each meal and prior to re-inserting your aligners to maintain proper oral hygiene.

It’s very unlikely that your aligners will ever fall out, no matter what you’re doing at the time (whether it’s sleeping, talking or laughing). Clear aligners are designed to fit firmly on the teeth, so this should not be a cause for concern.

Similar to other orthodontic treatments, the clear aligners may temporarily affect the speech of some people for a day or two. However, as your tongue gets used to having aligners in your mouth, any disarticulation or minor speech impediment caused by the aligners should disappear.

The aligners are made of non-toxic, medical-grade plastic and can be worn during pregnancy. If you’re concerned, please consult your healthcare professional.

Some people might experience temporary, mild discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. This is commonly described as a feeling of pressure. It’s a sign that the aligners are sequentially moving your teeth to their desired positions. This discomfort usually goes away a couple of days after you insert the new aligner in the series.

If you notice a sharp pain, or you experience significant discomfort, stop using the aligners and contact your dentist.

Aligner treatment is contraindicated in patients with active periodontal disease. If you have periodontal (gum) disease, you should consult your doctor before undergoing the treatment.
